About Spirit Root Art

Hi! My name is Cedar Worth, the artist behind Spirit Root Art. I was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, and while having spent much of my early twenties out west, I am back to being a midwest menace. I have loved making art my entire life, but started taking it seriously in 2020 when I began selling my hand-made jewelry online, in person at pop-up markets, and in a few storefronts around the area. I've spent the past year tucked away in coffee shops writing and drawing, exploring new mediums, making more earrings than I can possibly count, and finding myself with new consignment partners, as well as my work on the walls of cafes and galleries. I love the way in which my art grows, shifts, and evolves alongside of me, and I am so excited to share it with you.

Areas of Expertise and Exploration

Mixed Media

Mixed media work is a sensory wonderland for me. Within the past year I've been taking different found objects and smushing them into a combination of glues, acrylics, spackle, and silicone. This kind of work is both soothing and exciting for me--- both the process of finding the materials to work with, and the act of creating the art. I'm greatly inspired by midwestern grotto art, chaotic magic similar to Walter Wick's 'I SPY' works, and reconnecting with my childlike wonder.

Digital Illustration

I have loved to draw since I was a kid, and a game changer for me has been illustrating digitally using Procreate on my Ipad. My art is greatly inspired by the interconnectedness of all life; nature and spirituality; nostalgia; my identity as a queer, trans, chronically ill & neurodivergent being; my desires for a better world; and my belief that art inspires and is a tool to help create the world we want.

Working with Found and Natural Materials

Much of my mixed media work and jewelry incorporate found and natural materials. Whether it's stones and bones collected in the woods, Sea glass from sitting on the beach and sifting through the sand with my hands, or Up-cycling and etching mirrors from thriftstores and marketplace-- I love bringing new life to old treasures.

Hand-crafted Jewelry

The area I focus on the most is my hand-crafted jewelry, specifically earrings, and have been making them for 5+ years. All of my earrings specify what material the earring hooks are, and all of them are hypoallergenic. I've recently switched over to using hypoallergenic nickel free stainless steel earring hooks as I find they're more durable and tarnish free than the 925 sterling silver hooks. I love the creativity and freedom that comes with making earrings, and have a very large collection of beads and charms that i guard like a treasure goblin in a dimly- lit mystical cavern.

Glass and Mirror Etching

I enjoy finding old glass and mirrors on fb marketplace, at thrift stores, and sometimes discarded glass/trash found on my walks through the woods. I use a cordless handheld dremel tool and love the flexibility of being able to work outside or move around how I want without worrying about a cord. Many of my etched works are freehanded, otherwise I take advantage of tattoo transfer paper leftover from my tattooing days.

Literary Works

Another lifelong passion of mine is writing; my journals from throughout the years being my most prized possessions. I aspire to someday take my favorite bits and pieces from them, and combine them with my other poems, illustrations, and works to create a cohesive book.

I don't share as much of my writing as I'd like to, as it is the most tender and vulnerable pieces of myself; though the two pieces I have submitted to literary magazines were both accepted. You can find my work in WYRD Magazine's 8th Issue from fall of 2024, as well as HNDL Magazine's 11th Issue 'light'.
